What data we process and why
Website visits: the server automatically logs the IP address, browser, page visited and time. Legal basis: legitimate interest in the security and operation of the website. Kept for at most 180 days.
Closure checks: to notice when a business has closed permanently, we send its name and address to Google (Google Maps Platform) and look up its status. We only keep Google's reference for that place (place ID). This is professional business data, not visitor data. Legal basis: legitimate interest in keeping the published information correct.
"Near me": if you ask for it, your browser sends us your location, rounded to about 100 metres, to find the nearest businesses. We don't store it separately; it only appears in the server logs.
Business data: we publish professional information about businesses (name, address, phone, website, opening hours, photos). If a business is run by a private person, this can be personal data. Legal basis: legitimate interest in informing the public about local businesses, or the contract when the business has a package. Any business can object and ask for its data to be corrected or removed.
Recipients
We don't sell or pass on data to third parties. The website runs on our own servers in Spain. We only share data with authorities when the law requires it.
For the closure checks we use Google Maps Platform (Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC), which may process data outside the EU under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
Social media posts only load after your click; from then on the privacy policy of that platform applies (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube or Facebook), which may process data outside the EU.
Your rights
You can ask for access to, correction or deletion of your data, object to its processing, ask for restriction or portability, and withdraw your consent, by writing to info@askgrancanaria.com. If you disagree with our answer, you can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (www.aepd.es).
Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures: encrypted connections (HTTPS), restricted access and, for business accounts, password-free login with one-time links.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date of the last revision is shown at the bottom of this page.
